THERE CAN BE FEW THINGS IN LIFE AS WONDERFUL AS SITTING AROUND A ROARING CAMPFIRE MAKING MEMORIES AND S’MORES WITH THE BEST OF FRIENDS.
After a brief stay in San Diego, we headed out to Dos Picos County Park to camp for the night before heading out to Joshua Tree. Dos Picos is about 45 minutes outside of San Diego, easily accessible for quick weekend camping or beautiful hikes for those that call San Diego home – how lucky! It’s a bit of a crowded campsite, popular especially with scout troops – and we had plenty of boy scouts running about to confirm those reviews! – but it is spacious with great facilities and a great location, so it was a perfect site for a quick stay. There’s a great little lake in which you can catch a few fish, and the site is dog friendly – Coconut and Bailey had a blast!
We cooked up a delicious meal of roasted corn, stuffed mushrooms (thank you pre-made food section of the grocery store!), grilled chicken, and crispy roasted potatoes (in the dutch oven – to DIE for!). Some delicious red wine and of course s’mores rounded out a super tasty and mostly healthy camp meal – you don’t have to stick only to hot dogs and burgers when camping people!
The reward at the top of the hike is the most magnificent view of the surrounding hills. On such a gorgeous day as we had, it was well worth the hot hike up to the top.
