MAY THE WIND UNDER YOUR WINGS BEAR YOU WHERE THE SUN SAILS AND THE MOON WALKS. – Tolkien
We had the most amazing send off for our big road trip a couple of Saturdays ago. My parents flew in from Florida and co-hosted a camping- and fishing-themed send off for us with our neighbor besties Eric and Liz. It was the perfect way to embark on this great adventure and reminded us how lucky we are to have such a wonderful community in San Francisco.
My super talented Mama made adorable invitations, complete with teardrop camper and little Coconut replica, and also made most of the decorations for the party, while Eric and Liz planned a delicious menu and coordinated it all. They invited everyone to wear their best camping gear (which is flannel of course) and bring a recipe or “camp hack” to share with us for the trip. We had tasty treats, a trail mix bar put together by my girlfriend Catherine, chili and sausages (traditional camping food, of course), and lots of libations for everyone to enjoy.
My mom has a cookie lady that she just adores and she orders cookies from her for all of the parties that she throws, Jill with Dreams and Buttercream. Jill created the most adorable little camper cookies along with campfire and pine tree cookies. And the best part is that they tasted delicious. Most decorative cookies I’ve seen like this are absolutely beautiful but taste absolutely like cardboard. Not Jill’s cookies – they are very tasty in addition to being beautiful. #winning. The cookies almost didn’t make it because our mail was forwarded by the post office a week or two early (very annoying), but crisis averted – they made it at the last minute!
The decorations and party set up were absolutely adorable and made us so excited for our road trip and all the camping and fishing that we’ll be doing on our grand adventure.
And we had so many friends stop by – too many for our little apartment really but that was the fun of it! We’d planned to have the party in the park, and hoped that we could park the camper nearby so that our friends could check it out. Most people hadn’t actually seen it because we had to park in a friend’s driveway south of the City. But the weather refused to cooperate and we were driven indoors, which actually made party prep and clean up much easier so it all worked out perfectly, as life usually does.
What a lovely send off!
